3404 American Drive · Lago Vista, Texas 78645
Complete guest guide — amenities, villa layouts, marina access, dining, and what's included with every stay.
Is The Island actually an island? No — and you don't need a boat to get there. The Island on Lake Travis is a gated resort community at 3404 American Drive, Lago Vista, Texas 78645, set on a protected cove of Lake Travis with direct water access. You drive in through the gate and park on site. The name refers to the resort, not to a landform, and it is sometimes written The Island at Lake Travis or IOLT — all the same place, about 40 minutes northwest of Austin.
The Island on Lake Travis is a gated resort community, not a public hotel. Each villa is privately owned — you book one unit and get full access to all resort amenities for the duration of your stay. No other guests in your villa, no shared sleeping spaces, no hotel hallways.
The resort sits on a protected cove of Lake Travis with direct water access, a private marina, and unobstructed Hill Country views. It's one of the few places in the Austin area where you can swim off a private dock, get a spa treatment, and eat dinner at a waterfront restaurant — all without leaving the property.
All of the above is included — no resort fee added at checkout. These are private community amenities, not shared public facilities.
Every one of our guests also receives a personalized digital guidebook for their stay, with tips and recommendations for making the most of it.
Multiple resort pools with lake views, including heated hot tubs. Pool decks with chaise lounges overlook Lake Travis. Open seasonally — Texas summers mean pool season runs March through November.
The private marina sits in a protected cove with direct access to Lake Travis. Guests can rent kayaks, paddleboards, and pedal boats at the marina. Boat slips can be rented separately by Island guests, tenants, and owners. The main lake is steps from the dock.
Full-service spa offering massage, facials, and body treatments. The fitness center has cardio and weight equipment. Spa appointments recommended — especially on weekends. Book through the front desk.
The on-site restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with waterfront seating. Texas Hill Country menu with local ingredients. The bar is open through the evening and is the social center of the resort on weekends.
Lighted tennis courts available for guest use. Equipment available for borrow at the front desk. Courts see the most traffic on weekend mornings — book early during peak season.
The Island is fully gated with 24-hour security. Guests receive access credentials at check-in. Day visitors must be registered — this keeps the resort private and the amenities uncrowded.
All villas are individually owned — furnishings and decor vary by unit. These are the general layout categories.
Building 3 units overlook the main lake directly. Buildings 1 and 2 face the pool courtyard and marina cove — still beautiful, but Building 3 is the top pick for unobstructed water views.
Higher floors mean better views and less foot traffic outside your balcony. The 200 and 300 level units consistently get the best reviews from guests who care about the view.
The resort is significantly quieter Monday through Thursday. The pools, restaurant, and marina are easier to enjoy. Weekend arrivals are fine — just expect a livelier atmosphere.
The marina launch is open to guests with personal watercraft. Bring your own kayak or paddleboard and skip the rental fees. The cove is calm and protected — perfect for morning paddles. Trailering a boat? The Island has one boat ramp, next to the land bridge; lake access is subject to the water level.
HEB and Walmart Neighborhood Market are both in Lago Vista proper. Stock the kitchen before settling in — you'll save on food costs and appreciate having a full breakfast without leaving.
Lake Travis is a reservoir — water levels fluctuate based on rainfall. Summer after a wet spring is ideal. Check the LCRA lake level report before your trip if waterfront access is a priority.
No — The Island on Lake Travis is a private gated resort community, not a hotel. It's a collection of individually-owned villas. You book a specific unit directly through us (Above & Beyond Hosting), and you have the villa entirely to yourself. You also get full access to all resort amenities for your stay.
No. All resort amenities — pools, hot tubs, marina dock access, tennis courts, fitness center, and parking — are included with your stay at no additional charge. The restaurant and spa book separately (as they would at any hotel), but the recreational facilities are part of your villa rental.
Day visitors must be registered through the front desk and are subject to community rules. The resort maintains a private community atmosphere — this is one reason the amenities never feel overcrowded. If you're bringing a group that exceeds your villa's occupancy, contact us before booking to discuss options.
Building 1 (1100s) faces the pool courtyard. Building 2 (2100–2200s) overlooks the marina cove. Building 3 (3100–3300s) has direct views of the main Lake Travis. Within each building, higher numbers = higher floors = better views. The first digit after the building number indicates the floor level.
