How to Get to The Island on Lake Travis from Austin

How to Get to The Island on Lake Travis from Austin

The Island on Lake Travis is at 3404 American Drive, Lago Vista, Texas — about 40 minutes from downtown Austin. You drive there. Despite the name, no boat is involved.

The route

From downtown Austin, take MoPac (Loop 1) or US-183 north, then TX-1431 west through Cedar Park and Leander. Follow 1431 toward Lago Vista and turn off for American Drive.

From Austin-Bergstrom (AUS), allow about an hour — the airport is southeast of the city, so you cross or skirt Austin first. Weekday departures between 4pm and 6:30pm will cost extra time.

Use the full address

Search “The Island on Lake Travis” or the street address, not “The Island” alone. The final approach is Hill Country road: winding, and unlit after dark.

Stop for groceries on the way

Lago Vista has shops for essentials, but the full-size supermarkets are in Cedar Park and Leander, directly on your route. Stopping on the way in costs fifteen minutes; going back later costs most of an hour.

Arriving at the gate

The resort is gated. Access details come with your booking confirmation, along with the door code for your villa — there is no office to visit and no keys to collect.

Bring the confirmation with you rather than relying on signal; coverage along the lake is patchy in places.

Once you are here

The resort itself is walkable — pools, marina, tennis, spa, and restaurant are all on site. A golf cart makes moving between them easier, particularly with children or beach gear.

You will still want the car for trips off the resort: Austin, the wineries, or dinner in Lago Vista.

Rough drive times

  • Downtown Austin — 40 minutes
  • Austin-Bergstrom airport — 1 hour
  • Cedar Park — 25 minutes
  • Jonestown — 15 minutes
  • Hill Country wineries (290 corridor) — about 1 hour
